Hotel room view - amazing
Zion Church - the oldest in Greenland, and when it was built in 1779 the largest building in the country
From the town you can see the massive icebergs at the mouth of the Icefjord in the distance
Ice, stranded at low tide
Whale jawbone at the harbour
The locals queuing to buy whale meat from a boat that had just come in with its catch
It was butchered onboard, and then the meat was passed up to each buyer on the quayside
A small iceberg in the harbour. Apparently, if a large one that is too
big to tow gets in and is in the way, it is broken up with dynamite!

We went to a Greenlandic buffet in one of the hotels - winter dried delicacies as appetisers
Among the over 20 specialities on offer were five different whale dishes
The Ilulissat Icefjord is a UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Icefjord Centre has loads of really interesting information inside
You can walk over the roof
There are sled dogs on every piece of unused land - the law says that all dogs over six
months old have to be chained up, as they can be very dangerous if approached

The dog population is greater than the human population, and there is a
large ring of dogs all around the town - the howling can get quite loud

They are all Greenland dogs, one of the purest breeds in the world, isolated for over a thousand years - it's illegal
to bring any other breed of dog north of the Arctic Circle here, so that nothing like Amber gets into the gene pool!

Looks like the mother has had enough of her pups for a while
The puppies roam free until they reach adulthood
This one has figured out to get food from tourists at the Icefjord Centre
They spend the summer gathering strength for their work in the freezing winter
A Lapland longspur on a pallet fence. There are no trees in Greenland
and wood is scarce, so pallets are recycled and used for everything
